Merrillville man died of gunshot wounds after SWAT teams called to his home, coroner says

The Lake County Coroner's Office said a Merrillville man died Friday after a call involving SWAT teams.

The coroner's office was called at 5:45 a.m. to the 1000 block of East 63rd Place, where John Thiel, 55, was pronounced dead at 7:41 a.m., a release said.
