East Chicago man dies from gunshot wounds, coroner says

A 69-year-old East Chicago man died from gunshot wounds Saturday morning, according to the Lake County Coroner's Office.

Alonzo Smith, 69, of the 4800 block of Melville Avenue, was pronounced dead at 8:25 a.m. at St. Catherine's Hospital in East Chicago, according to a coroner's office news release.
